Our aim is to investigate, record and promote the history of Sittingbourne and the local area by research, study, education and publication.

With over 15,000 hours of time clocked up in 2016, the Historical Research Group of Sittingbourne ‘Heritage Team’ volunteers are at the heart of what we do. They carry out local heritage investigation by documentary and archaeological research.  Much of this work is then published and or presented both visually and orally to the community.

The Heritage Hub situated in the Forum shopping centre in Sittingbourne and is the HRGS’s window to the world and as well as being our Research Room. We can showcase much of our findings to the community.  In 2016, the Hub attracted over 7000 visitors.

Here are just some reasons why helping with our research into local history and archaeology, or volunteering in the Heritage Hub can benefit you…

1. You’ll meet new people

2. You’ll be part of a friendly team

3. It’s a chance to learn new skills

4. You can gain valuable work-related experience

5. You’ll receive training and support

6. It’s a chance to really indulge your passion

7. You can make a difference to local heritage

All our project research areas have an incredibly rich history whic
h is intertwined with the stories of the people who have lived and worked there across the centuries. Our volunteers find new ways to bring these stories to life.

So, why not make volunteering your New Year’s resolution…
